The evolution of bilateral relations between the US and the Islamic Republic of Iran under R. Nixon Administration: implementation of Twin Pillars policy.

The U.S. policy on Iran in 1960 – 70s of the XX century, which was implemented within the framework of the Twin Pillars concept under the Nixon Doctrine, is studied in the article. Much attention is paid to the foreign policy vector of President R. Nixon in the Near and Middle East and in Iran in particular. U.S. policy in the 1960s and 1970s has turned Iran into an active player in the Gulf region, modernizing its armed forces, contributing to economic growth and political independence.
The implementation of the Twin pillars policy in the framework of the Nixon Doctrine turned the Islamic Republic in the American protectorate in the Near and Middle East. Obvious benefits at the time of bilateral relations were very noticeable to the United States because Iran had the ability and desire to play a guardian role in the region and friendly relations between the two countries had a positive history of relationships. The author also notes the main shortcomings of the policy that contributed to the confrontation of the two countries after the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
